My poor old cat :o(

Hello all... I am so sad... My old black cat of 16 and a half died yesterday after suffering an illness.
She started to lose weight about 3 months ago so we took her to the vets where she was diagnosed with a Thyroid disease, sadly there was no treatment but she was comfortable so basically we took her home to die... She gradually got thinner and thinner even though she was eating. We had prepared ourselves that her time to go was coming to an end, but it has still hit me hard... She had been with me longer then my children have...
I don't know what to do really, but I am getting her cremated at a pet cemetery... I am thinking of getting her ashes returned to me in a casket. I have till Tuesday to decide if I want her ashes returned to me or if I want them scattered at the pet cemetery gardens.
Has any one reading this had their pets cremated and the ashes returned to them? Could it offer comfort or could it be sort of morbid? I'm confused.

Sorry to read your post. Cats are without a doubt my favourite pet. Ours are nearly 15.

My thoughts on ashes etc are a big no-no, be it human or animal, but others will probably disagree.

I'm so, so sorry for your loss. It hurts as much as losing any member of the family. Thinking of you.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I have all my pets ashes in little wooden caskets with nameplates. I would like them to be cremated with me when the time comes. It's a personal thing really. Big hugs xx

Sorry to hear,we had our cat of 24years pts a couple of weeks ago. We also have the ashes returned and bury in garden next to her fav spot.

I plan to have my dog cremated when his time comes, and will scatter them at his favourite path that we walk

I don't think its morbid at all, my next door neighbours cats ashes are in a little box on top of her fireplace

Sorry to hear about your cat

Our cat Abby got run over a few months ago at the age of 11..We have her ashes scattered in our front garden, near a bush she always used to lie under waiting for us to come home.

It is hard to accept that I'll never see or stroke her again

still I have been here before and with more pets i'll be here again.. It's a nasty fact of life!!
I keep cuddling my 2 doggies... They are lovely... Having a pet die helps you appreciate the pets that are still here.
I have kept myself busy today and did a complete clean out of my little tortoises home... They seemed to really enjoy that.
I have decided to keep my cats ashes in the casket and perhaps one day I'll scatter them.

we have always buried our pets including the dogs and planted a tree or similar, I've heard some not so nice things about animal crematoriums

I admit to being a little dubious about them myself but I personally don't like the thought of burying my cat.
I have been assured by my vets that the crematorium I am using is very good so that's what I have to go on.
