It can take any tortoise a while to settle into new surroundings. Dont panic he will adjust in time. Keep him well hydrated and dont worry if he does not eat, eating is really not important at this time. But keeping him hydrated is:0)

Tortoise table
Thank you for your reply, he has eaten today, but he has cover his water bowl in bedding, maybe a bath will do the trick?
Thank you |

There is nothing wrong with vivs as long as they are well ventilated and big enough.

What bedding (substrate) are you using?

Ready grass is a waste of money when it comes to med or horsfield tortoises. As they dont generally eat it, some keepers think it keeps tortoises warmer, but they are cold blooded so its of no real use. Also if it gets damp then mould spores can develop which is really bad for any tortoise.
Soil is a far better substrate, as it allows tortoises to dig in and thermo regulate themselves easier:0)

Hi Sandy
I've got him some soil substrate I've put it in a seed tray so he gets in and out of it when he wants to, he's behaving a better calmer now, he goes to bed as his table has a section that's covered and goes straight under his lamp when he gets up, I'm so pleased thank you so much for your advice! I'll be picking your brains again so if that's ok when it warms up he'll be going outside |
