Default Max temperature under basking spot

What is the Absolute max safe temperature the basking spot should be in my tortoise table?
I ask because when it's hot out my temps are really hard to control as my room gets so hot. I just want to know what the max should/can be?
I know most people say between 32-34 degrees to aim for, but I am out at work all day and want to know if it gets hot that they are safe and wont basically cook.

Do you use a combined bulb? As if not you could get a dimming thermostat that would help stop it getting too hot...

I do use a combined bulb I used to use a thermostat before, but obviously can't with a combi. I just really worry that their going to over heat.

You could always just turn the lights off on hot days when you are out...

About 35c... the tortoises do have a choice. When you say safe... that assumes you know what the best high temperature is. This is going to vary depending on the ambient temperature. Always give them a choice.

Hi,

This is exactly why a a hybrid system of a stat controlled heat source and a high output UV source is a far more effective method. It gives you total control and allows you to provide light and UV over a MUCH wider area and as such create a usable photo gradient. Your combi can then be used for what they are great at and that is a quick, uv rich warm up zone just forna couple of hours a day.

John.
