Default over grown beak or underdeveloped bottom jaw

wrong diet?
too much calcium?

waht am i doing wrong, trev is 7 and he's not long been to vets for a beak trim, the vet said he looked like he'd suffered from mdb when he was younger or summit like but said he healthy and very spirited

what can i do to help him maintain his own beak with out regular trips to the vet for a trim, i think i need to hibernate him this year and improve his diet

He is lovely by the way.
I was going to say, make sure you feed him off a slate, but it looks like you do in the bottom photo.

What do you feed him at the moment?

When he walks, does he lift his shell off the ground? he just looks like he is eating in an odd position. Mine are usually stood up when eating.

Are these pictures before or after the beak trim? if they are after, I think the beak still looks too long, when he has his mouth open he still has alot of overhang in the way, it must make it hard to get the food into his mouth, more could be filed off in my opinion, see what others think

he's been offered cuttle in the past but he'does nt bother with it,im gonna get some more and grate some over his food make it a lot more coarse,

I often find my tort looking like she is trying to bite in to some of the big rocks in her table. I suspect that this, along with frequently munching on cuttlefish, helps to keep her beak down. Do you have some rocks in you enclosure?

Next time you go to the vets, get him/her to show you how to trim the beak yourself. Its easy once shown:0)
