lol, interesting. I dont find my hermanns boring at all, either the T.H.H or the adults T.H.B
Mine I find them with an inquisitive nature, seem to be "smiling" all the time.

Even the adult female T.H.B which was quite shy for the first year is now extremelly inquisitive but docile at same time
on the other hand the +75y old male is extremelly active, inquisitive and runs after me everytime I go to his enclosure.

On the other hand I must confess that the kleinmanni is a bit boring.. lool
always hidding and sleeping.. only comes out to bask and eat in the morning and afternoon.
not an inquisitive nature at all... lol

the horsfields on the other hand they all seem to be on steroids, such an energy... lol

My hermanns aren't boring at all. All eight of them have completely different characters and only one of them is grumpy - Oscar.
All of them are nosey so and so's, inquisitive and love a bit of affection.
I don't have other torts to compare them to and wish I had the room so I could, but I adore my hermanns.

I don't think mine are boring either. Each to their own I suppose.

Hermans boring? How very dare you!

I guess it depends where & how you keep them. I have an old male THB who seriously thinks he's a dog!! His usual stance is walking up the garden with head turned over his shoulder - at a pin drop! He is always patrolling his area, rain or shine. You cant go into the garden without him knowing & once he knows your out there he just wont leave you alone!! Changed & moved his old tatty greenhouse a couple of years ago - while he was hibernating, would never have managed with him underfoot & built a new "food" one this winter for same reason - I hadn't quite finished when he was up again & an absolute pain. Even my Husband likes him & hes a comfirmed "Tortoise disliker"!! Visitors to my house are amazed at how active he is I have a tortoise friend who I can remember her hubby having races up the path with him!!

I agree with Lynn , how very dare all of you who say Hermans are boring, on what grounds do you feel you have the right to say this. I've had my Hermans for 40 years and they are far from BORING FYI Sammy is full of character , he's adorable, and Jemima , has more energy than all my young margies.

Lynn your little old Herman sounds like a wonderful character , a bit like Sammy, Jemima is very nosey if I'm doing some gardening, she always comes to see what I'm doing and gets in the way.
