I'm sorry to hear that. In the male it is natures way of protecting the package. If it was vunerable by being exposed... who knows what could happen to the little willie. Nature has a way of dealing with such things. Tucking the tail in makes sense for the male. What sense would it make for the female. She does have to make it accessable for the male to procreate... or there wouldn't be any little tortoies.
