Jeannette, I have two 10 month old Hermanns. It is not advisable to mix subspecies so unless you are happy and have space to keep them seperately it is best to go for two of the same subspecies. You also need to bear in mind that if you have hatchlings you may need to accommodate them seperately when they get older if you end up with either two males or a male and female. As far as a breeder in the West Midlands I think there was someone on the forum from the West Midlands with hatchlings recently so hopefully someone will respond to you shortly.

Good luck

hi jeanette,
i'm new here too and we recently got 2 hermann's. we did the same as you and researched for a few months until we were sure we'd be able to offer the torts all they need. we love them to bits... they both have such different personalities already!
good luck

I have two 6 month old Hermanns. They are quite funny to watch and they have different personalities. Mine are very lively and spend most of the day wondering around

that should, of course, say hermanns (not hermann's)

hello and welcome If you are planning on keeping more than 1, I'd go for Hermanns, as horsefields are very aggressive

Hello and welcome. I have two ibera's (i know, another to the mix) and they are brilliant together. If one moves the other is sure to follow. Same care as a hermann. Got one from a breeder in southhampton. He was ace. Not sure how far that is from you but he breeds hermanns too. Can pm you details if you want x

Hello and welcome Have two Hermanns 11 months old and they are lovely . Had a Horsefield and then got it a companion and they fought ,but i didnt have the knowledge then that i have now . Horsefields are more outgoing !!! You will probably have people singing the praises of the breed that they keep .Good luck Judy

Thank you everyone for your warm welcome,im so excited i think i could burst,im so sad i even took my stone tortoise out of the garden today and put him in my tortoise table ha ha someone i use to know when i was younger has eggs and 9 of them are fertile she would like £100 each and they are Hermanns but the only thing i was worried about is dosen't the breeder have to keep them for so long so they become established?
