Very good point with the word turquoise.. As a kid I always thought when people said tort-oys it was strange but it really isn't is it? .. Just like when northen people say bath and path instead of barth and parth... I say the latter but it isn't spelt with an r in..

i say tortus,i think tortoise pronounced with a black country accent sounds rubbish!
my polish neighbours keep banging on about TURTLE soup,what are they trying to tell me?
