New home found this thread can now be deleted please!!
I have just become a foster mum for this gorgeous smooth tortoise. She is fully grown I beleive as she measures 6 inch in length (155 mm) and weighs 669 grams.
Her last owners beleived she was a Hermanns. I got her expecting a hermanns to turn up...only to be confronted with this little beauty!! Unfortunatly she has no paper work so you will need to apply to defra for that and get her microchipped if you want to breed from her in the future. Ideally I would like to do a straight swap for a female Hermanns but I am open to ideas. I am up loading all the pics I have of her so far for you to see just how lovely she is. She is eating a completly natural diet of weeds and plants. Last edited by Dawn Fletcher; 07-06-2009 at 10:45 AM. |

I hope not!! I have a lady that is interested. Im not sure how much I should be asking for her though......any ideas?
I only know how much I paid for her thinking that she was supposed to be a Hermanns |

Well with out paper work, you can't sell her.
And she doesn't look old enough to have been brought in before the 1984 ban, so I doubt defra will provide paper work, as she is being traded illegally. |

Have to agree with what has already been said. I would be very careful as they are having quite a crackdown on illegal trading lately.

She looks pretty mature to me (But what do I know ),going on the size of her and her well grown shell. If you know her full history and can prove she was aquired before the 1984 ban,and get letters from previous owners then Defra might consider some form of paperwork, but you need a full history that they can check. As said above you can only rehome them with no paperwork, I have 2 without paperwork I checked with Defra and the nice lady explained as I did not want to sell them and I had just rehomed them then it was ok, but I have kept the details of the person I got them from as advised by the defra lady, so if Defra ever came to call then they can go back to the previouse owners.
Good luck with rehoming her she is lovely, If I lived close I would love her. Anna xx

I had two without paper work.
I spoke to defra and have got breeding certificates for them both which allows me to sell any future offspring if I wished but they themselves can never be sold. Which is fine by me lol.
