Crazee i smash them up so they are really small bits , they eat them rather than the small stones now, It solved my problem but as we all know all tortoises are different, as I said mine ignore the shole cuttlefish they just like the smashed up bits now.

I have found that it looked as if my tort was attempting to eat a big rock. I found he was just keeping his beek trimmed down. Mabye this explains a bit, if it does not im sorry

Some have observed tortoises eating small stones in their natural environment and believe that the small stones help with digestion and with the grinding up of food..It isnt recommended to encourage but I have witnessed mine eating small stones on rare occasions.

Thanks, Star. My little man continues to swallow a few stones and then pass them a few days later with no ill effects, so I guess he knows what he is doing! It would be impossible to stop him without depriving him of as near a natural habitat as possible.
