Default North American Wood Turtles

North American Wood Turtle - Glyptemys Insculpta

Does anyone have any experience with these? What what I've researched so far they are far more aquatic than North American Box turtles requiring a captive environment closer to sliders and the like with young animals spending the vast majority of their time in shallow water. Also males can't be housed together.

I've had a look at Geomyda's Central American Wood Turtle care sheet on terrapin tank, is care similar for North American Wood turtles?

Any advice, caresheets or books for reference would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Dave.

North American Wood Turtles are indeed fantastic Turtles and can be kept in a similar manner to their central American counterparts.
However, they are of course very much a temperate species, and one of the most successful breeders of these brilliant Turtles keeps his breeding group outside all year in North Yorkshire. He generally produces up to twenty hatchlings per year from his group of breeding females.
How many have you got?
I would recommend a recently published book by Al Roach from the USA; The Wood Turtle, old Red legs.

Thank you both very much.

I don't have any Wood Turtles at the moment, just doing my homework.

I saw HermanniChris's outdoor Wood Turtle enclosures in the housing section, I'll have a browse through the site, cant believe I haven't before!
