A 4 inch male should be fertile Lynn but whether he can get the job done at that size might be the problem. Between 4.5 and 5 inches is probably more realistic.

And regarding whether he can do the job at that size - mine has demonstrated that size does not matter to him! He managed to have babies with a female that is four time heavier than he is! Last edited by Hanako; 26-02-2014 at 10:10 PM. |

Maybe he has got size where it matters Hanako!
I agree some of the hermanni hermanni males are quite petite especially when compared to their boetgerri cousins.

Oh I had a male that was 3.5 inches SCL and he was fully capable of getting the job done. Just that 3.5 inches isn't the average for most male Testudo hermanni hermanni.

I have only experience with my THH but mine is definitely much smaller than yours, so I can assure you that yours should be ok. Just trust him and let him get on with the job!
Does he try? Does he flashes 'it' while having warm bath? Does he attempt to mount anything that moves and even distantly looks like a tortoise? Last edited by Hanako; 27-02-2014 at 09:43 PM. |

Hanako I've been keeping him separately for a while as he became a pest to the others with his biting and mounting. So yes the signs are that he is ready to give it a try.
I'm not sure if any of my females is big enough. I have at least 3 that are definitely female, one of them is larger than him but the others are smaller.
