How awful that engraving their shells is necessary Such beautiful tortoises though Hope it will deter the poachers.

have a read of my thread in general, I think it could be a workable idea for our torts, as a registered means of helping prevent theft etc

it wouldn't be compulsary but if a bold mark made mine less actractive to thieves I'd have it done.

Why... why is this sad? The animals are not hurt. It serves the purpose of protecting the animals.

The idea is not a new one. Years ago... animals from St. Cathrines Island were told to be returned... they were marked in a similar fashion because it was suspected that they were destined for the black market.
