For those that I am hibernating I use a natural where I provide a substrate where they can bed down. For those that I'm not hibernating I'm just maintaining a healthy environment.
I will always believe that hibernation is not a necessity and have yet to be proven wrong. It's totally up to you if you would like to submit your tortoise to suboptimal conditions. Quote:

Ed you state for those you are Hibernating , but also state its not a necessity so why are you hibernating ?

The species I maintain outdoors I let hibernate. Those indoors I don't hibernate. Those that are outdoors are following a natural cycle and those indoors are following a natural cycle for the conditions provided.

I'm sure you caught the point that that while some do hibernate naturally some of the same species do not.
Again it is not a necessity and it really is not natural in captivity. It is something they are force into. Quote:
