Hello from me Hilary. Nice looking Horsfield's. Im afraid the existing "pyramiding" can't be corrected but as they grow , with a proper diet, it will become less noticable as more smooth shell is laid down.
I wouldn't offer any more christmas cactus as it's toxic to tortoises. However if you can get hold of some Opuncia (prickly pear) cactus the torts should eat it and it is a very good source of fibre and calcium. Sounds like you're going about things the right way, if you're going plant shopping look out for Campunela, my torts love these and they grow (and flower) year round. Your encloser looks good. I'm still working on mine. It has taken a long time to get together. Glad the Pansies were a hit. Must try that with my 2

I'd imagine they weren't interested in the items you gave them because once those little guys get ahold of the store bought stuff (junk food) it's hard to get them off. For awhile they will turn their noses up at your weeds. Don't give up though be patient and persistant and soon you'll have healthier torts.

Thanks - they didnt touch the Christmas cactus, so now its chucked out. It was on another site that said they could eat it so I thought I'd try them - just as well they knew better!
Been foraging to Dobbies (not a lot in 'cos it's Christmas) & got more pansies (they seem to be the most tasty, especially the flowers) & also some sedums (saw those on the list of munchables), but they havent touched them yet (just sat on them). Shame about the shell - let's hope it does become a bit less noticeable with time then. Dont know if its the change in diet tho, but nobody has done any whoopsies since they moved house - probably means there's a mountain on its way! |

that sure did make me chuckle!! whoopsie i know, im immature don't worry about them not having a whoopsie lol, as you say they will probably be storing it up as a nice treat for you. keep bathing, possibly daily and im sure it will come out in no time. the housing looks brill!! well done for changing the viv. on the whole diet stuff! my bobby (first tortoise) was fed salad, as soon as she came to me it was weeds and grass. she didn't eat for nearly 3 months but eventually gave in to the good stuff let us know how you get on. and finally welcome to the sheldies crew!! alice. xx
