do you need to put a stone under the light so he can bask in the warm and do you put his food at the other
end away from the light, does his food need to be on a flat surface like a piece of tile/slate. |

Hi Bertie,
I have got the sand / soil mix under my basking almp and have put some white coloured smooth pebbles under it so that the torts can rest on them and they are not too hot which under the lamp a stone would, they also have the choice to dig the sustrate here too if they wish as the stones are loose on top of the soil sand mix. As for the flat tile or slate for eating off, the answer here is yes, it will help keep the beak trimmed, and I keep this away from the lamp as it will dry the food leaves out very quickkly. Ade

ideally its best to be able to measure temps at both ends of your table to ensure temperature gradient
what type of thermometer r u using does it have a probe |
