Default Hello

Hi, Im new to this forum, and soon to be getting my first hatchling sulcata. Ive scoured the internet for caresheets, and ive bought a few books, Ive bought tortoise weed seeds and started growing other treat plants(hibiscus, pansies, arum lillies, busy lizzies, prickley pears etc.) Is there any advice all you experienced people could give me that i wont find in the books?

Hello Inkyjoe,

Welcome to Shelled Warriors.

If you use the search function you will be able to look for specific information alternatively if you have a particular question feel free to post.

No questions are silly except for the ones which arent asked.

I read it in a book(cant find it now, I think its called leopard and other south african tortoises). Thats a pity, because ive brought and started germinating seeds for them now-oh well if in doubt, chuck it out, or at least not feed them to torts

I think arum lillies come from a bulb, which makes them toxic to torts.
I hope you have read lots on Sulcatas, as they grow enormous, and can dig holes 30ft deep,
they can knock down fencing, and need a whole paddock when fully grown.
Just checking you realise this, and have the land and the money to keep them as they should
be kept.
Sorry to sound negative, but so many come up for rehoming when they get to large.

Welcome to Shelled Warriors, we have a young sulcata that was recently rehomed to us, she is less than a year old and at 200g is already bigger than some of our 3 year old Leopards!

Here is a link to some pictures of our torts, including our little 'Sherman Tank' She has a lovely nature and at the moment is a bit shy, but she is getting there!
There is a fantastic breeder of Sulcatas that belongs to this site, if you have the space for a sulcata and haven't found a breeder yet, just let us know and we can point you in the right direction to this excellent breeder.
