Default Herman Veggies

Hi all,

I was just wondering what vegs (if any) are safe for Hermans. I grow my own veg in the garden and just wondered if any of it could incorporated into their diet. Also I am building them a tort garden which will be very near to the veggie patch so I want to make sure there is no risk of anything that is no good for them ending up falling into their little area.

Many thanks. x

Hi Kim,

All med species tortoises do not require vegetables as part of their diet.

This time of year weeds are in total abundance, if over wintering instead of hibernating some salad leaves like rocket, little gem, raddicio lettuce can be used to substitute lack of natural weed vegitation.

However during the hot summer days your herman may have the odd piece of cucumber to aid hyrdration but not too much as it is a fruit and may upset the gut a little if too much is given.

You can grow plants like petunia, pansy, aubretia, campanula, laveteria, sedum, nasturium to name a few which look good and also act as a variation on the weed diet.

Just make sure they are mushrooms and not toadstools.
