Default London Zoo visit

A few of the Just Me and my Tortoise group went on a visit to London Zoo today to see the new Galapogos Giant Tortoises. This included a guided tour and a bit of a look behind the scenes. I'll have a lot of photo's, I'll start with the tour and the tortoises. Thanks to Wendy for a very special day.

By the way, we couldn't meet the Giant tortoises close up because they are still in quarentine and a bunch of tortoise keepers was a bit too risky.

Default Galapagos tortoises

The Galapagos tortoises. They have three, a male and two females. The male is believed to be wild caught, the two females bred in captivity. Their origin is thought to be the Island of Santa Cruz in Galapagos. I think thats what their keeper said ( not sure I wasn't really listening, she was a bit foxy).

Maybe someone else can fill in the gaps regarding age etc?

I am so pleased you all enjoyed the day and terrific photos. Wonderful pictures of the Galapagos Tortoises.

Dirk was born in the wild and assumed to be 70 years old and weighs 175kg
Dolly is captive bred and is 14 years old and weighs 108kg
Dolores is captive bred and is 10 years old and weighs 48kg
