Default an interesting one

well I was gifted a 7 year old female herman's today with papers (stating hermans) as the owner could no longer keep it.

i went and collected it and didnt look at it was already boxed up as it had been a long drive and i wanted to get home before the frost came down again, plus owner seemed upset at having to let it go.

anyway on getting home and getting her out of the box i got a suprise its not a female hermans its a female med spur thigh?

shells not in the best condition but seems to have been well looked after if that makes sense.

so question is what do i do next as i only keep hermans

Can we see a picture of the top shell of the tortoise please ?

And how disappointing for you, did you not see the tortoise when you collected it? And it is a male x

no the lady had already boxed it up for me and she seemed upset at letting it go so i said id look after it etc etc and left.

got home got it out and realised it was a spur thigh,

its a female very active and got the tiny little spurs at the top of each back leg

im gutted, just waiting for the lady to get back to me to see what she wants to do.

That's a shame, with a concave plastron like that it is a male and a nice looking one too. Someone will come along and identify the subspecies for you, (i only keep terrestris spurthighed and horsfields) that that will help you now anyway, what are going to do, did you purchase the tortoise or rehome him? X

rehomed it as the lady just wanted a good home for it with other hermans???? but obviously that now leaves me with a dilema as its papers say Hermans but obviously its a spur thigh

i thought that with the concaved plastron but then tail suggests female

ive emailed the person it came off as obviously no decisions can be made till ive spoken with them

Does she have other hermans? Or only had this tort? If she only had this one then she didn't know what she had! If she has other female hermans maybe she would do a swap.

Shame as he is a lovely looking boy x

do you know what she'll do with it, if she's just going to rehome it to someone who doesn't know its not a herman or that it still needs chipping and the correct paperwork maybe it would be better if you rehome it being honest as to its species and get a letter of gift for the new owner from the lady concerned. Just an idea.
