Talking Deep heat projector

Here I am waking you up again!

So what's Jonathan on about now?

A new gadget, the Arcadia Deep Heat Projector.

http://www.arcadiareptile.com/enviro...eat-projector/

What does it do? It warms up a tortoise and claims to do it better than for example a halogen lamp. No visible light.

So is it just like a wee electric heater then? And does the tortoise know to sit in the right place?

It says that you must use a dimming stat and claims the 50 watt gadget provides more heat than a 100 watt heat emitter. This could be handy in a coldframe I'm thinking: for those very overcast days (plenty here).

I've splashed out £14 plus postage and will update you once it's here and set up.

I'll try it out indoors to start with.

Interesting.

I wonder how it provides deep heat into the muscle tissues?

Be very interested to see how you get on.

Seems a good price.

interesting - do you think it may work like a heat matt though and they can not thermo regulate it? its a good solution if it works. keep us posted unless you are snowed in in which case keep us posted when you dig yourself out CB

Update - it's arrived but I haven't set it up lol.

According to Arcadia the infra red A and B is a different kind of heat compared to a ceramic heat emitter or a lamp like a halogen. Claim it's like what the sun does.

It was about £14 so if it lasts a long time (which it claims it does) it could work out reasonable value compared to a halogen.

Arcadia are claiming that the heat from the 50 watt is like 100 watts of heat from a lamp. They are saying you MUST use a stat for it.

I've been busy with other stuff but I will fix this up over the next day or two and will see what the torts make of it. It's not like a heat mat which I think basically works by direct contact.
