Thumbs up Tortoise Owner To Be Southwest

Hey all,

Been hoping to own a tortoise for a year or so now. But held it off to enable me to do research and cannot wait to home one.

Not sure what species I should get yet and to be honest all the tips and support I get the better. Which is why I registered to shelled warriors... had a look around and seems to be full of passionate pet/family owners... (I can imagine how attached you can get to these torts)

I am based in the Southwest and ready for Titan (future torts name)

Look forward to it...

Kyle

Hello Kyle and welcome to SW forum Yes, you are quite right, once you get owned by a tortoise you start of become a bit driven There is always lots of great advice on here which I'm sure will help - have you looked at any of the different species of torts yet and taken a shine to any in particular? To some extent, your choice will be led by how much space you have also how much garden Then of course, do you want one which hibernates of one that doesn't.

Thankyou for your reply... i like the look of the Med species... i was hoping not to hibernate one but obviously if the species has too i will... havent got that much space atm due to moving.... but i was going to get a relativly small one so by the time it needs to be outside i will have a garden... we have a court yard at the moment that would house a run or pen though....
But gonna start with tabletop...

Welcome to the forum Kyle. Ask away with any questions you have and there's always someone willing to offer advice.
There are a few breeders in the southwest so it may be worth having a look through breeders lists and seeing what torts are available and what appeals to you.

It sounds like a Hermanns or Horsfield would be ideal for you.
I don't hibernate my Hermanns.

It's too big to keep updating Suze, it changes too often
