What a delightful buttery yellow colour Willow has. A smashing tortoise.

She has a very inquisitive nature .. always somewhere different in the garden. She has two healed 'holes' in the top of her shell .. caused by a dog biting her when she was a baby. Treated by a vet I was told. The previous owner kept her in a wooden vivarium for 8 years with limited outside time. She has never been hibernated. When I got her her back legs were left dragging behind her and all her toes were overgrown and curly. She has thrived in the right environment .. Has an indoor table all year round and an outside house / pen .. plus as you can see a rather big and weed covered garden.

"As a lawn invader this plant is mildly toxic. Many tortoises nibble it occasionally with no ill effects but try and remove as much as possible as it contains the mild toxin protoanemonine and there is a reference to a tortoise dying after ingesting it." this is what the tortoise table says about butter cups. I imagine the odd one wouldn't do much harm to an older tortoise x

How do tortoises manage in the wild where they inevitably encounter poisonous plants?
