Hermann Keepers - Question on Size and Weight...
Hi all Hermann keepers...I have a 9 months old tort who weighs 25g and with a SCL of 5.2cm, is it around right size? I have had it for a month. Do you weigh them every week? I was told baby tort can have a very big variation in small things like after/before drinking/poo-ing...
I have read some post elsewhere saying their several months old tort weighs more than 40g, and is much bigger. Maybe they have a different species...that's why I decide to ask someone who keeps Hermann!! |

Sounds about right, my hermmans at 1 year was 40g and yes pooing and amount of water can make a few grams difference, which, for a baby is a lot!

There is a very wide variation in the weights of small hermanns. I have photos of a hatchling that was 2g. Although that is a tiny one it grew normally and is fine.

2 Grams?????? Picture a tortoise the size of 2cc... I cant. I hatched out an Egyptian at 9 grams and that was scary small.
Did you get any photos of the tortoise because that has to be a record for the small side.

I'd be willing to bet that is more than 2g.
The Egyptian I mentioned was smaller than a US dime and it was 8 to 9 grams. Unless the tortoise was severely dehydrated or emaciated... Not really important... Quote:
