Default Rough Vets

I took the Tortys to the Vet today for their 2nd worm treatment it was ok but i found the vet a little heavy handed with them as i treat them like little gems.

....So anyway after the worm treatment i thought i would ask about the red skin area by George's mouth/cheek.

The vet said word for word....

"oh yeah that looks sore"... He then picks him up fast pulls his head out (very roughly!!) and pulls of the scale over the red area...

"ok see you next week then" and (no lie) dropped him in his carry box!!!!

I couldnt belive it and asked at the desk after to have a different vet next week.

Anyone else have a rough vet and have you said anything to them??

Is he an experienced reptile vet Eremiel?Ordinary vets have little knowledge of tortoises on the whole.I certainly wouldn't have expected a scale to be pulled off over a reddened area!

I no I was shocked! I went to the vet were I take my cat and they wouldn’t even look at the Tortys to they sent me to the only Exotic vet in Swindon (were I live) as far as I no it’s the only one.

They only look after Exotics.....

I’m not ever sure he was a vet but maybe a nurse of some sort. I had a little out burst when he asked for the Turtles to come in

"They are not bloody aquatic” was my response hehe

They can be found here; www.gwexotics.com

when i had 2 horsefield tortoises wormed some years ago i found it a little disturbing, the vet hooked the beak with forceps and pulled the head out, then with finger and thumb around neck forced mouth open so drug could be administered.
this is the way an experienced exotics vet works, but in your case it seems a little heavy handed and o.t.t.
