Default Microchipping

I phoned around for a few quotes today for microchipping torts and they certainly vary in price!
One of my nearest exotics vets said that the chip size they use is just 2mm. I've not heard of them being that small before. I thought the smallest was the mini microchip at 8mm. http://www.microidglobal.com/

Has anyone had their torts chipped with these tiny chips or are aware of such small chips?
Obviously if I went ahead and got them chipped I'd want the smallest chip to try and avoid causing them discomfort but are the smaller ones more likely to travel?

Any advise would be great. Thanks.

Cheers Suze!

I think they have misquoted me on 2mm. That just seems so teeny. I'm waiting for someone else to phone me back with more information, but apparently they are new microchips for exotics from Bayer.
As far as I was aware, the smallest was 8mm so 2mm seems incredibly small.

Well, the vets don't seem to know how small the chips are but just claim they are 25% smaller than the usual chip, which I assume must mean it's an 8mm chip and not 2mm!!

If anyone knows of a smaller chip than 8mm I'd be interested in the information, but I suspect that's as small as they get and the needle size is where they got the 2mm from.

Dear me, if the vets can't get that right, I'm not sure I'd go there. Ha ha. x

Oh I won't be. The torts will be getting chipped at the practice where my son works. They only use standard chips but are happy for me to source my own minichips and the head vet will implant them for me. It's only my males that need doing as my females are chipped but I want them done for security reasons.
I thought I'd have a phone around to see what chips other practices use and what they charge. Some are extortionate - £44 per tort!!

The cheapest was £21.90 for the first tort and £16.43 each for the others. The dearest was £43.22 per tort.

I am also getting four done Alley.
