I am also no expert, but I do get to look at a lot of human x-rays and Dory's looks like it could be under exposed? This would explain the difference in the two, because it is not a problem with the machine but just that x-ray, a further x-ray of Dory might help for comparison. With human lung x-rays sometimes they look horrendous but it's just the exposure. Having said that I'm not at all knowledgeable about tortoise anatomy or veterinary techniques! Good luck.
