Default Asked about chips

I asked my vet how much it costs to microchip a tort today and she said the same price as any other animal, £18. She then said they have to glue the injection site closed so the chip doesn't fall out before the skin has had time to heal. As torts are cold blooded and heal very slowly the chips have been known to drop out. Is anyone else aware of this? She also said they do it in the leg. Do all vets put the chip in the leg?

If I remember correctly it has to go in the back left leg. I had my spur done, but no glue was used!.

I would eventually like to breed from him but until then I would just like the security of knowing there would be a chance of getting him back if lost or stolen. He is 11 years old and although my (please god let it be female) hatchling is far from old enough to breed, I may be fortunate enough to acquire a female adult TGI and would need him chipped to apply for a breeding license

sounds good , i'm sure you already know that you would need more than one adult female the male would stress one out , i keep a herd of 10 adult females to 2 males and find even then in a large area the females get stressed at certain times of the year. If you can find them you would be better off with at least 3 adult females.

Ideally I would love a nice group of females but I am finding them hard to come by. If I could only find one I would only let them be together for very short periods and only under supervision, in the hope they may mate. If he was stressing her in any way I would remove her, us ladies like to be wooed not harassed, don't we.
