I've no idea whether they are safe or not but just because they are native to their homelands doesn't mean they are okay, it would be a bit like oak trees or pine trees here I suppose which are toxic to some animals

If they can grow ok, i don't see any harm, i have some Jap Acer's in the garden, the tort's don't bother eating them but use them for shade.

This sounds very interesting, Greg. Do you have any pictures of this tree?

Have you actually manage to sprout the seed yourself or you have a cutting of tree? Got any spares for swap?

It would seem to be a Wild Olive. A check on Google - and it would appear that the seeds are poisonous, and possibly the flowers, but nothing else was said about the leaves etc, although there are lots of questions. Seems as though its good to treat constipation, but that is for humans so could be detrimental to tortoises.
I imagine it would be a number of years before it produced olives and probably not hot enough here for the tree to flourish? |
