gravid on newspaper
My adult female horsfield had to go to the vets yesterday as a bite from one of my other females has got a bit infected. The vet has put her on antibiotics and told us to take her off the soil and keep it clean with tamodine and bathing. She last layed 3 eggs on 9th march.
When bathing her today she started moving her legs in nest digging motions and on feeling above her legs i can feel she has eggs. Anyone got any advice as i am meant to be keeping her off the soil?? Thanks Jemma |

Hi Jemma, sorry to hear that, can you not bandage the leg then put her on soil to lay the legs? That's what I would do, hope she's ok x

Oh I see, how about putting Vaseline on it, any soil will stick to outside and not get to the cut, then when she's laid wipe it off then back on newspaper? Hopefully someone will along with more advice x

Are you sure i can put vaseline on it? The vet thinks it has formed an abcess. She said abcesses in reptiles go hard so if it doesnt clear up will need to be surgically removed, which she doesnt want to do as it is on the neck. I am really hoping it will clear up with cleaning and dont want to put anything on it that may stop it healing.

Jemma this is only an idea (may be rubbish) I brought some F10 cream when one of my females had a mating injury. Its bright pink & has a similar consistency to vaseline. I flushed the wound with dilute iodine a couple of times per day then smeared this over, I was paranoid it would get infected because of location but it never did. Would it be worth using this alone or indeed mix it with vaseline? ( I got mine from surrey pets )
