Unhappy Hemoglobin

Hi Everyone,

I took dory for a yearly check up the other day and i mentioned to the vet her wee is pink. The vet said she thinks it Hemoglobin, which is something to do with the red blood cells. She hasn't give her any medication as she said she's not to worried yet.

Could someone please explain to me "in simple terms" what this is and should i be worried?, also is there anything i can do or give dory to make it better? my other tort Darla is fine.

Dory hasn't eaten anything different and she hasn't had alot of dandelions, but she's not her usual mischievous self.

hemoglobin is the chemical in the red blood cells that carries the oxygen, so should not be found anywhere other than inside a red blood cell. but that is all I know really but I hope it helps...

Sorry to hear that...is her wee pink consistently or just one time you notice?? I know in human it's not uncommon for some to have pink-ish urine after eating certain things...

I guess if you only see it one time and that your vet is not too worried at this stage, you shouldn't as well!!

I have to get my blood tested regularly and they have mentioned over the years from time to time that the haemoglobin is high or low I think. Is it not just iron? I don't think it's a condition, just part of what's in your blood I think

No I don't feed dandelions everyday, the last time offered her some she would not eat it so she hasn't had any for a while now.

I found this but it's about dogs. Explains what haemoglobin is though.

Actually haemoglobin is found in several different cells in the body, such as specialised muscle cells in the kidney which may explain why it is being passed in urates and your vet is not too worried.
