Default Does this count as mixing species?

Ok this may sound dumb...I know that it's no good to keep different species of tortoise in the same enclosure, so this really makes me wonder:

To my understanding I know that there are 2 subspecies of Testudo hermanni...if I keep a THH with a THB does this count as mixing species? and can they mate and have a 'TH cross species'?

If you can positively identify one from the other... I don't think you can unless you know where either the parents were collected or they were collected. So... they are probably the same species.

Many don't recognise subspecies.

Some say it does; others say it doesn't. As far as I'm aware they can cross breed.
