feeding sulcatas?
I have 4 little sulcatas that are a few months old, they have timothy hay with the mixed dandlions etc in their enclosure, that i bought from the pet shop, also they have some other forage stuff, but i havnt really seen them eat it, i give them weeds , salad leaves, and flower petals when they are inside that only 2 of them will eat, the other 2 dont touch them.
I have also grown timothy hay and orchard grass, and they have had some of this, only small quantities. When they go out during the day they will eat the grass a weeds. Is this enough, as i dont feel they are happily eating 85% of hay/grass/straw. They definately have more weeds and salad leaves at the moment. How do you get your hatchilings to eat the straw/grass and hay and what exactly do you feed them? thanks

I don't keep sulcatas so i'm not sure, but i've heard people mention with other grass eating tortoises that they cut up teh grass and sprinkle it over the weeds so that they eat it with the weeds, kind of like us putting salt on our food lol. Maybe this would work?

you can also cut up timothy hay and put it in a coffee grinder, spray your weeds with water and sprinkle this fine hay onto the weeds which it sticks to,ideal way to give them fibre.

ok but do you think timothy hay and orchard grass with my lawn grass, weeds and plants are enough, (i am growing other grass seeds too but may take a while).
They will take alot of pursuading to take the hay, but you have given me good ideas, i shall try them out.

dont be discouraged about them not eating grasses right away. Like suggested cut some grass up into smaller pieces along with what they do eat and in a few weeks or so they will aquire the taste for it.
