My cats obviously know this instinctivly as they run away from the tortoises.
I imagine the torts find a handy ledge and jump off just as the cat walks underneath. Thus stunning the prey. |

..And you would have been well out of pocket too Laura if you'd bought all those "Essentials" that they tell you you need

Too true Alan! The store i got Fluffy from tried selling me a viv, but i had one a neighbour had given me. Luckily within 2 weeks i has joined SW! If i has bought all the "essentials" the pet shop said i needed, i wouldve been in serious debt!

I am a newbie Tort owner and have read various books (before making decision to have one as a pet) and most say different things but as a new owner if i had been given a care sheet like that i prob would of brought everything on that list (and not needed most of it!).
As for tortoises eating cats and dogs do you think my 1 yr old child is safe! lol

Like the crickets, I figured a healthy cat was too fast for my torts - luckily a shovel is a very easy way to slow them down, otherwise not only do they escape, they groom all the Nutrobal off

yepppppppppppp....still a lot to be done out there...
I saw similar in a pet shop in North Dublin recently (no mention of danger to cats). Makes me wonder if they are (1) ill-informed (2) genuinely believe captive torts can live equally well in a viv ...we can have a long discussion on that...no thanks (3) put profit before animal welfare to keep their turnover up and torts moving out the door... |
