Default Which CHE ?

Ok so I want to get a CHE for my babies for this winter, for nights mainly. What
Wattage do I need, 40, 60, or 100. The room they will be in is quite cosy, it's just for when it gets really cold and the temp might drop a bit below 17 or 18.
Or am I being a bit over cautious. Thanks.

I use the same wattage as my basking bulbs, so big ones have 100w ones, dont have one for Teabag yet though...

Over cautious perhaps... dont forget a thermostat so it wont get too hot!

my CHEs are all 100watt, but they are in the sheds, but maybe for tiny hatchlings a 75watt (if you can get it) or lower perhaps if for a small table? x

Also thinking about it, i tried Tyler ( who was a very small hatchling over winter) without a CHE or any other heat source overnight and the temps rarely went below 17c, so i didnt need to use one especially where i covered the table over night with a wooden lid x

I use a 100 watt in my vivs on a night time sensitive stat. ( it only comes on when it detects the dark and the temps drop below 15.) But it is unheated and gets cold. Although it may be better this year as we had it revamped with all new windows, roof and door. Much less drafty.

Thanks everyone, I've never used one before, I keep them in my bedroom over the winter, and last year the slightly older ones managed without night time heat and were ok, but at times it did feel quite cold, so I thought for the babies I'd get one this year. I'll see how the temps go. Thanks

If your bedroom is comfortable to sleep in, you probably won't need any heat at night for them

Unless your temps in your bedroom drop below 5c on a regular basis, they will be fine, without extra heat.
You have to think tortoise not human when it comes to temps:0) As long as they have heat the next day, they will be fine.
If you do have temps that drop below or around 5c regularly, then heat would be needed, and you would be braver than me:0)

Thanks Ross and Sandy, it never drops below 15/16 in the coldest part of the winter ( last winter) so probably I don't need to get one, great

I still wouldnt let the temps go as low at 5c, i aim for lowest 16c overight, and inside the torts tables dont go below 16c even if its freezing outside, so i think you will be ok without a heat source overnight indoors lol x
