Default Breeding age for a female Hermanns

Hi,
I'm used to keeping Leopards, so it may seem a basic question to all you Med Tort keepers - but what is the normal age for a female Hermanns to become sexually active and start egg laying?

My uncle has a lovely old male Hermanns (very amorous, tries to mount anything that moves) and he asked me, so i thought i'd ask the experts...

Many thanks

It goes by size...not age...particularly...some one will tell you the size soon...I just go...that big!

They are supposed to be ten years or more to really start breeding. Before that a tortoises
body is not really mature enough to deal with eggs. And can shorten the lifespan of the tort.
But size is what determines egg laying.

Then your seven year old must have been big for her age<g>.

Just out of interest how old/big should a male be? Frank humps Tally every now and then but doesn't (from what I can see ) get his 'dinkle' out!

Tally is 9 yrs old and 16cm long and Frank is 7yrs old and 13cm.

Excellent! Hmmmm, I suppose now is a good time to sit down with Frank and explain that there is 'something' inside his tail that needs 'pop' out!!!!! Shame really, cos the little luv puts sooooo much effort into it and has the biggest smile on his face when he is (ahem) 'doing it'
