That is so cute. Thank you for posting. I wish I had been a little more relaxed with my dog as she seemed so taken with them.

Sorry but dogs and tortoises should never be mixed.

I don't think they kiss ! But they do sleep together on occasion though.

Supervised I can't see any issue having kept both since age 8 and some like each other some don't. Lettie will bite so clearly not a doggy fan. CB

I agree with sandy and sorry but photo's like this, as nice as they are, may suggest to other's that's its ok to allow a dog to be with a tort with dissasterous results as we so often see.

I have a Staffordshire bull terrier (the supposed danger dog) and she gives all my animals a wide birth, if they walk towards her she will move out of their way, and if the hamsters in his ball she will dodge that too never had a problem.

I do however think it is wrong that people let their dogs play with the torts as I have heard in the past with disastrous consequences.

I think that the picture in this post gives out a positive message, the dog is relaxed around the tortoise x

yes I see all views and hope the photo doesn't suggest dogs should play with tortoises, but they do co exist quite happily at my place. I suppose it is understanding behaviour and as I have trained, and grown up with dogs I am relaxed with my own around the tortoises. I apply the same guard against dogs, and children also which is never leave unsupervised and understand their behaviour. Some might say is more difficult to calculate in a child as there is a common factor in a dog. I am not a great believer if you have a dog you can't have a tortoise which some rescue centres place as a condition.
If you can care appropriately then there should be no caveats.

This tortoise actually seeks out my dog for company and that's how it is and always been. She on the other hand may chase a cat if it comes into the garden. The torts not bothered. CB

Unfortunately when pictures of dogs with tortoises, will send out the wrong message.
Dogs never intend to hurt tortoises, they just see something to chew.
And no dog is 100% safe with tortoises or children.

I think good and valid points Sandy and I agree with most of your sentiments, not sure about dogs seeing them as chews, some dogs might I suppose. My dogs don't have chews, being qualified, with two dogs that can spell disaster, just carrot sticks, but that is another thread.

People should know torts and animals ordinarily don't mix, neither cats and dogs, snakes and rabbits, grannies and tarantulas.

I am sure there are horror stories out there as there always is.
My other dog is non plussed. My other torts not interested.

Fact still remains they are pals in the sense they seek each other out.
