Keeping high humidity for Tunisians

Hi!
How do you keep the humidity high?
Read that they should high humidty specially during night time and that the substrate should be kept dry, anyone tried to use a fogger for tunisans? Or would it get to wet?

Tunisian are a true desert species,They don't cope very well in a damp substrate.
I keep my substrate dry the only damp substrate is nest site.

Tunisians can take any air humidity, but you don't have to specificly keep it at a certain percentage. Just make sure they have access to water and drink as often as possible.

good topic! i've been wondering the same thing.

how near the shore does this species live in the wild?
doesn't it get very wet during winter there?

i have been keeping the soil moist, and i have a humidifier also, because the air here gets really dry during winter (almost 15 %), so i've tryed to keep it about 40 - 60 %

do you think it's ok?

my little ones have got a little shell deformity and i'm trying to figure out what causes it.

I dont think that it is a good idea to keep the substrate wet, should be kept dry.

just took some pictures last week

here they are, the first one is Nemo, about 80 g and the one behind is Kamu about 100 g

as you can see, Kamus shell has started pyramiding and unfortunately it has gotten worse this year


I just changed the soil from their enclosure.

i don't understand germany, so i had to use google translator for those links you suggested.

the last one seems to be saying that the substrate should be kept wet but the top soil should be dry. but it says that the air humidity should be high or they might get runny nose. Did i get ti right?

Yes that what it say, dry substrate and high humidity. I have read that some experiment with mediterrian salt in the fogger to avoid RNS, like the breeder of klienmanni in germany

Kamu has been growing a bit faster than Nemo, but they hatched at the same time, have lived always in the same enclosure, same conditions, eating the same food... maybe it's just individual difference...?

When they hatched Kamu was about 10 g and Nemo only 5g, because he's a twin.

I've had the fogger for about 2 years now and i fill it with regular water. they've never had any problems with RNS but you'll never know so that's a good tip concerning the salt.
