Default Can you pick weeds in bulk?

I was wondering is there a way of picking weeds in bulk and storing them for a few days. Some days I have loads of time to go looking for them and other days I don't.

Also is it possible to feed a diet of weeds with tortoise pellets a couple of days a week if I don't get time to go out looking for weeds?

Hi Valerie, I pick mine for 2 days at a time if its a good patch I then store them in a carrier bag with handle tied at the top in the bottom of the fridge, I take them out as require wash and feed.

Weeds do keep for a few days in the fridge
Some say they keep a week but I find they don't
I don't feed pellets so as the weeds run out in the winter it only seems to be lettuce and lettuce
With another thread I learned how to pick Mallow but I only see it beside busy roads where it can't be picked

Default store weeds in the fridge

Hi Valerie
I dont go weedpicking everyday but find if I wash the weeds that I bring back well & pop them in a sealed carrier bag they keep perfectly well in the fridge for 3 days , maybe even longer I usually go at least twice a week.

Dont think pellets are good, ive personally never fed them. But there are plants you can keep in pots in the house, Kalanche, succulents, xanthamums (prob mis spelt, sorry) You can pick these up quite cheaply & use to feed. And what about pansies & viola, they grow in the winter too.

You could also have a go at growing some seeds.

I wash my weeds and then put them in a sandwich box in the fridge, they last 4 -5 days usually.

I wash mine and put them in a plastic crisper box ( from IKEA ) providing I rinse them through every 2-3 days they do last for ages. You need to drain the container off everyday too.

Winter weed's/plant's, i mix in a bit of salad leaves, to make them go further and put the supplement on the lettuce and such, so it is doing some good.

I find that my weeds last almost a week....but I dont wash them, this might be the reason...I put them in a container and wash them as I use them....they seem to stay fresher that way.

Hope this helps...also another tip, when your out collecting weeds, try and take up some of the roots, cut of the leaves and throw the root into a patch in the garden, I have found that they then take root and you start to get a new plant....I do this with all of my find, if they dont take now because of the weather, they will in the summer.....
