Hi
I have 4 rats and am a trustee for cavy rescue a rat rescue (yes, i know cavies are guinea pigs but that is a long story). Please have a look at the following forum: http://www.fancy-rats.co.uk/home/ It has excellent information about housing, behaiour and health and feeding. In particular you should have a look at the feeding section and the Shunamite diet sticky. It is the best food to make up for rats and is really very easy to do once you get started. Commercial feeds are no good, you have to be careful with protein levels to make sure not too high and copper levels to make sure not too low. Shunamite covers most of that. Also they do need about 15-20% fresh food a day like curly kale, broccoli, carrots, apple, cucumber etc. They also love cous cous, cooked pasta and soya milk. Good luck with your charmiogn fellows, rats are great pets. |
