I can't tell you how many times I have lost my 4 for several nights (up to 8 nights) and they are only 2 years old. They always come out when the weather turns really hot and almost without exception a foot or so away from where I last saw them. This is even though I have a very strong torch light and have done a fingertip search in the areas.
Don't write your baby off as out of the gate just yet! Good luck and stop crying - guess how I know you are doing this!!
