There are experienced Herp keepers who say they are able to maintain suitable environments for tortoises in a vivarium set up. I've been keeping Herps for 25 years and still wouldn't attempt it. |

Even though you looking into a cherry head because its smaller than a normal red the difference is only a few cm so this is still going to be a big tortoise! And you have to think of heating a big enclosure to with it. I have a 7x4.5 foot table that I made for my 5, sizes rang from 9cm to 16 cm. I am going to convert it to a viv type enclosure as I do think it will be easier to keep the humidity up and heat in and keep the temps stable. But when they are all fully grown they are going to need either a small room or a shed |

Regarding cost? Even though you think you've bought everything you need you will always find ways of improving you set up and decor that you'll want to rearrange, buying plants, making outdoor enclosures, ect. I don't think this is a hobby you can have on a budget lol If you look to the links I posted they show hatchling accomodation, which gives high humidity, is on the cheap and isn't a viv- have a look Last edited by blackcat38; 15-05-2009 at 12:13 PM. |

Good care sheets are the "how to", books like Vetters are the "why" and used in combination can round out the knowledge. When a care sheet says "do this" you'll know why its an appropriate thing for your tortoise. I just like reading about tortoises |

Will it be indoors all the time? Not really a suitable life for a tortoise in my opinion. Sorry.
