I had it made for me I wanted it to go pretty much the length of the viv so they had 10 foot of space but the guy made it about a foot but the ramp is another foot long at least because of the angle the torts would never be able to climb it otherwise. It is like a table that fits inside the viv which they can go underneath and use the ramp to go up onto. They tend to sleep upstairs and I have a heat lamp at either end as it was hard to keep the temperature up for them with just one but I had to put a 40 watt bulb in that one. There is alot of wasted space in a 2 foot high viv as the torts are not that tall.

I don't use one because I have young children and both children and tortoises are safer in a vivarium where they can not be hurt. I also have a puppy and He may hurt them. I have always had them in a vivarium it is a wooden one with glass doors, the tortoises are happy and healthy and I am happy with my choice. I realise alot of people don't like them but there are many that choose to use them.

I use a viv/fishtank too. Very easy and nothing wrong with it, or Bowser
In my experience, yes, horsefields can successfully be kept in a viv. |

Fish tanks are not what I would describe as a viv. I'm not so sure I would be happy with mine in a fishtank how does it work for ventilation? Do you have the top open? Not a criticism just interested how it works.

I use a converted fish tank, will post some pictures later.
I don't like to use cages, not after my male kept climbing up it, he got his head caught in the bars once and was just hanging there. I'm using a cage for my hatchlings but as soon as they can reach the bars they're going in a viv. |

I am not sure I like the cage idea either I would worry about them hurting themselves climbing up the sides. Mine are in vivariums that are basically wooden cabinets with vents on the back and glass doors, we open the doors slightly in the summer and this keeps the temperature right and they get outside as much as possible but I bring them inside overnight I would not like them in my garden at night they would not be very safe.
