Default 1 extra hour of sun?

My outside enclosure gets the sun from sunrise until 4pm then the sun moves round to the front of the house. If I extended the enclosure by 20 feet they would get an extra hour of sun until 5pm (if it's sunny ). It would be a fairly big job to extend it by 20 feet, would it be worthwile for 1 extra hour at that time of day?

sounds like they get more sun than mine, im not sure all that hard work for another hour of sun would make alot of difference, but if you like playing around with their enclosures - which i do then i would extend.

Im sure Ive heard somewhere that an hour of good natural sun is worth more than say a few hours under a UV bulb so I would say definately yes!

Yes I also read that but Ozric Jonathan measured the UV with his Solarmeter and found that at 4pm the UV at this latitude was worth very little. This was really the reason I was asking, I wondered how little was very little and that if it would be worthwhile doing the extension for the sake of one hour.. and also bearing in mind how many sunny days we get in the summer

Personally I'd say if they are getting full sun during the best part of the day, extending by an extra hour when the sun is starting to get low, would bring minor benefits at best.

Obviously thoughy, if you have an extra 20 feet spare, thats another enclosure, so logically more tortoises.

Yeah swad, we would have space for more but when we have to bring them in we wouldn't really. 2 will do until the lottery is won

Only if it's to be warm and until about 4pm just now. They usually sneak under the slate when it gets cooler

I go with carl. the extra effort for what they gain isn't worth it. But the added space is definately a plus.
