**URGENT** OH NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok not sure what topic to put this under but I've got a huge problem!!!!!!!!! We have just had torrential rain for the last couple of hours and the tort shed is soaked through!!!! There were a couple of leaks round the doors but its the actual sides and doors - they are soaked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just from the shear amount of rain - the wood is soaked through!! What can I do to avoid this happening again?? Two of my torts - one of the hatchlings and one of the larger ones - they were both at opposite ends but near the doors and the hemp and torts were soaked! Will they be ok?

Is there anything I can do to waterproof the shed? My problem is Im at work from 6.30am till 9pm tomorrow and the next day so can't do anything about it till at least thursday! HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPPPPP PPPPPPPPPPPPP!

Good coating of fence guard will help the water run off and not act as a sponge - make sure roofing felt is in good condition and there are no holes or splits in the wood.

Cheers Dazza, its a new shed so roof felt is brand new I will try the fence guard stuff - any names that you can recommend that are safe round Torts???

my bright idea was going to be a metal plate around the bottom
but then it would still soak in the top

If you use any of the water based shed/fence treatments they should be safe around your tortoises especially once they are dry, all the water based ones I've seen are plant/pet freindly.

Thanks guys, so do you think this will solve the problem - obviously not the leaks but the satuated wood bit? Will the torts be ok? Two of them were drenched!

if your going to put something on the wood am I being daft but wouldn't the wood have to be dry before you can paint it on otherwise aren't you just sealing the water into the wood, plus if its a new shed then surely you can complain to where you got it from don't they have a guarantee, sorry but I think if its that wet and you can't get the torts dry then your going to have to bring them in and wait untill the shed has dried out, mind you its better to find problems now than when its really cold.

I cant do anything now till thursday anyway as I said Im working tomorrow & weds. I would wait it until it dried out first obviously, that goes without saying lol! The torts are wet cos they were sitting right by the doorway - I moved them away and put them in the dry bit.

Well according to the weather man its gonna be like today for the rest of the week, so i'd give it a while to dry when that sun finally comes out

hubby says a new shed if put up properly definately shouldn't leek and that you should complain as it doesn't do the job it was meant to unless it came as untreated wood, our tort shed is really old and came from freecycle but it doesn't leak and has had some pretty heavy rain and wind on it.
