mmmm it's a conundrum. then again some of my females are a little more active than other males and I know Banjo Duo just sits a bit perplexed with all the activity subjected on him !! but he has been cajoled by his brother for years before he cam to me and bears the scares still. look forward to photos ! I think they can be choosy, my adult male Marginted is very picky about his females, on the other hand my little old Herman will bonk literally anything

I was going to reply but as we all know vets always know what they are talking about when it comes to tortoises unlike me.

Ha that's what made me laugh so much. I can just picture your face and the irony.....I've packed some bags on some occasions....

It will have me in stitches if it's a girl !!

It's so nice to have a debate though and take it all good hearted.

Ha! Spoke to a vet today, who had no idea there are different sub-species of Hermanns and didn’t have a clue what her own is! Won’t repeat the rest of the conversation, which was actually nothing to do with why I was in the vets as it was a passing of pleasantries that led to a conversation about rehoming animals and I mentioned the torts I’ve adopted.
I can only conclude most, not all, but most vets have limited knowledge of tortoises unless they are exotic specialists (and even then I know of one who is clueless!).

Having spoken many times to G on here, on the phone and in person, I can only conclude he knows much more than three vets I have had personal dealings with!
Of course he knows lots about lots of things, especially certain types of intimate clothing, and possibly much more besides! Plus knows sweet FA about lots of other stuff, but sexing a tort clearly isn’t something vets are sure about!

I also notice said vet, the OP, hasn’t bothered to comment back on this thread.
How rude!

Rant over.....

Maybe it is a girl, hence no response!
A debate is good, but talking to a vet today really wound me up at the sheer lack of general husbandry knowledge. Honestly, it shocked me! Not knowing the recommmended diet or substrate is just beyond belief, she admitted she didn’t know where to chip tortoises but could google it and didn’t even have any idea of the sex or sub-species of her own despite it being adult.
The mind boggles!

I was only in there for a post-op check up with my newest doggie!

Ha!
Luckily you’re not the telephone operator dealing with me today when they said they couldn’t send out an engineer for my washing machine till Friday!
It’s have-a-rant Monday!!!

I google you all the time, G! It’s the images that pop up I can’t cope with!
