Default Ideas for new tortoise table please?

Hiiii

Im looking into getting a new indoor enclosure for my torties

I want to have a large tortoise table! roughly 6X3ft but about 2ft tall so i can have a thick substrate (12 inches)

I have heard of converting a wardrobe (Taking off the doors?)

Obviously i wanna get away with spending as least as possible but any ideas woudl be good And pic of your large DIY enclosures woudl be a great help

Also wou i need to treat the wood so it doesnt mould becuase of the topsoil/playsand?

Anyway all ideas would be much appreciated cuz im looking forward to spending my birthday money

I would line it with a plastic sheet to protect it from humidity, especially if it's for a tropical species. I'd buy some boards from B&Q as they're cheap. It would be cheaper to make your own than it cost for the bookcase.

This thread has lots of pics of indoor enclosures.

I got a second hand wardrobe for a very reasonable price (cheaper than it would have been to get decent wood to make an enclosure). If you have a local freecycle group have a look on there also as you may be able to get a freebie!

I lined it pond liner to prevent the wood from getting wet and mouldy. I've had my tort for a year and a half now, after all the spilled water bowls, wet soil and spraying of the enclosure...it does the trick!

Hope this helps

I bought a bookshelf from Ikea for £20, had some spare planks from a previous project to reinforce the bottom and a fiver's worth of pond liner. I was quite pleased with that although it's not as big as the dimensions you want.

I'm about to build a coldframe with wooden supports which I bought from my local merchants, they were off cuts at £2 a bundle, about 2.5m long but quite thin, maybe you could look for something like that?
