I know this might be a dumb question - but if a tort behaves in this way would that mean he was a male - or would a female also do this?

I would say the one mounting and squeaking is the male ( a remote chance it could be a
dominant female) but it does not mean the other is female<g>. It could be either male and
female, or a male playing dominant to become the alpha male.

You want to come and see my reds they put on the best show ever.... They are around 3kgs and they wait till I have visitors and off they go they are both males and are very visible and noisy and they take it in turns to be the "dominant" one. Not exactly small enough to be ignored.
