Just awful!
It breaks my heart to hear of any loss. Here's to better times and many successes in the future for you both. Lots more photos too.

If notice I started off with a standard fence at about 14" high, they scaled this with no problems, so upgraded to the overhang design, full of life these guys and do not fear danger, my redfoots will back off if they see a steep drop, not these guys, they drop off like lemmings, they can self right very easy too due to the long dangly legs.

I'll put how I built this enclosure in the enclosure section.

I could keep them in slugs and smails! Inundated this year! I always liked hingebacks, I know a lady who keeps them and she reckons her females are the bosses, bite and bully the males.

I've seen the females clear out everybody when they are ready to lay, I've literally seen the males run away, these can run fast, it's funny, they look like John Wayne with h bowed legs. I've never seen my males fight though, they have stare offs and that's about it.
If your seriously interested in this species I will be looking for some new owners for my hatchlings soon. I'm very reluctant to let some go, but I can't keep them all. I'm scared of people not caring for them correctly. But I know I have to find some good keepers. Be nice to find some that are willing to raise groups of 3 or more and hopefully help make this species more popular in the uk. I really do think they are an easier species for us in the uk to look after, free food in garden, they don't like it super hot. It's just a case of knowing how to care for them, these and erosa are more omnivore than other hingebacks. They eat worms etc at least every other day. All I do is raid the compost bin or go in garden after dark hunting for slugs and snails. My neighbours must think I'm nuts, I have weed beds I pull flowers out of and hunt in the dark and talk to my torts. Lol. Seriously though if you were interested in some, you have plenty of time to get everything ready, and I'd fetch them to your doorstep. |
