So I have a deep area I could fill with soil for digging. With regards their house do I leave soil in that or something else?

I do feel some of the issue is the weather.

Today is an odd one up here.. It's lovely and warm but cloudy and no sun atall.
Luckily were thinking of emugrating and fancying Gibraltar so they can live outdoors all of the time

The deepest area is about 20" deep, the enclosure gets nice and warm between 26c and 35c give or take, even on a day like this, partial cloud Im getting 28c and the enclosure does not get full sun all day just parts of the enclosure gets hit but if it gets to hot I open the lid.

I find my tortes just make shallow scrapes but they have the choice to go outside when they want (daytime only).

For them to dig down it can either be too cool or too hot for them or just not light enough its a hard one to call TBH.

I still think putting food down in front of them can make this happen as well, some days my tortes get food put down in front of them and other days I make them search for it in the garden on the lawn, this keeps them active and busy.

You could have one area with deep soil so they can dig down and then you will know where to dig to look for them if need be, i do have soil in both sheds and both coldframes as well with a deep soil area so they can dig down into those as well x
